One of the key elements of fingerstyle guitar is the ability to use each of your fingers independently. This is especially important for the right thumb, as this finger plays the bass notes. The bass often leads the rhythm and groove of the music, which is why its coordination needs to be very steady. More thumb exercises
The exercises that are featured on the previous pages only involve single notes. On this page exercises are presented in which two or three notes are played simultaneously. The emphasis is on the coordination of the right hand, but also a new left hand technique is introduced. More simultaneity exercises
Fingerstyle guitar music contains many left hand shapes that are related to commonly used chords, which makes it useful to develop skills on playing chord shapes and rapid chord changes.
Six different chords are presented in the exercises on this page. These are combined with fingerpicking patterns that should be relatively easy to play for the right hand. More chords exercises
Three beginner level fingerstyle exercises are presented on this page.
